70 STUDENTS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS OF LUONG VAN CAN FUND FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2016 – 2017
On 10 September 2016, 70 students from universities and colleges nationwide were awarded Luong Van Can Fund Scholarship (Academic year 2016 – 2017). It is the second year that LVCF awarded scholarships to talented students with disadvantage backgrounds, handicapped or belong to ethnic minorities. Representatives of Ministry of Education & Training and Department of Education & Training HCMC and many other sponsors and mentors attended this event.
The selection of candidates has significantly increased both in quality and quantity in comparison with last year’s. For academic results, the minimum average grade must be 7.5, comparing to 6.5 for last year. For the number of applications, there were 442 candidates from 52 provinces applied for the scholarship, an increase of 13% comparing to previous year’s. Based on the scholarship’s selection criteria, the Selection Committee has chosen 37 students to be awarded Luong Van Can Fund Scholarship for academic year 2016 – 2017. These students have showed their abilities, clear goals and detailed self-development plans to achieve their goals while having difficulties that need support to continue their study. Besides, the Selection Committee also re-awarded 33 among 58 recipients from last year. This year, the full package scholarship covers full tuition fee, English improvement fee and living cost. Its value is VND 20,000,000 each for all recipients.
Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia – Permanent Deputy Chairman of Association of Vietnam’s universities and Colleges – Vice President of National University HCMC – Chairman of the LVCF’s Selection Committee highly appreciated LVCF’s efforts in popularizing its coverage among the students across Vietnam. LVCF is not only awarding scholarships to students but also creating an environment so that the students can develop themselves. The assessment process has been proven fairness and transparency by the Selection Committee.
LVCF is a place to nourish the talents. Besides the sponsors, there are also businessmen as mentors of LVC Club. These mentors give the students opportunities to approach companies, successful people and coach them life experience. Ms. Phan Thi Tuyet Mai – Director of TMTM Company – represented the mentors – said that the mentors would be always there for them to share not only knowledge but also life experience. These activities bring opportunities to its students to enhance and improve themselves to be better people.
At the ceremony, Mr. Le Hoai Nam – Vice Director of Department of Education and Training HCMC – highly appreciated LVCF’s efforts and activities, especially with its clear objectives. HCMC Department of Education & Training will have further support for the LVCF.
In the discussion, students explored the Seven Commandments of LVCF. In addition, they also selected new board of management for the LVC Club in order to promote and operate itself more effectively.
